Getting Started with Publixx
Create professional documents from your data in minutes. One template, 15+ output formats.
What You'll Learn
This tutorial guides you through the basic workflow: loading data, designing a template, binding data fields, and exporting to multiple formats like PDF, PowerPoint, Word, and more.
Step 1: Load Your Data
Publixx works with your existing data sources. You can import data from JSON files, Excel spreadsheets, or CSV files. The data becomes the foundation for generating multiple documents automatically.
How to Load Data
- Go to File → Load Data in the menu
- Choose your data format: JSON, Excel, or CSV
- Select a local file or enter a URL to fetch data from an API
- Click Import to load your data
Step 2: Design Your Template
The visual designer lets you create professional layouts using drag-and-drop. Choose a page format, then add elements like text boxes, images, tables, and more.
Available Element Types
- Text: Headlines, descriptions, labels with full typography control
- Image: Product photos, logos with automatic fitting options
- Table: Specifications, feature lists from structured data
- Bullets: Feature lists, highlights from array data
- Shapes: Rectangles, circles, lines for design elements
- QR Code / Barcode: Links, product codes (EAN, Code128, etc.)
- Chart: Bar, line, pie charts from numeric data
- Video: Embedded media for digital outputs
Step 3: Bind Data to Elements
Connect your template elements to data fields. When you switch records, all bound elements update automatically. This is what makes Publixx powerful for batch document generation.
How to Bind Fields
- Select an element on the canvas
- In the Properties panel, find the Data section
- Click the field selector dropdown
- Choose a field from your loaded data
- The element now displays data from the current record
Field Reference Syntax
You can also type field references directly using curly braces:
{fieldname}— Simple field reference{product.name}— Nested object access{specs[0].value}— Array access{price} €— Mix static text with data
Step 4: Preview Different Records
Your template is now connected to data. Use the dataset navigation to preview how different records will look. This helps you ensure your design works for all your data.
Navigation Options
- Use the dropdown selector to jump to any record
- Use arrow buttons or keyboard shortcuts to step through
- Use Filter to show only records matching specific criteria
Step 5: Export Your Documents
With your template ready, export to any of the 15+ supported formats. Generate documents for the current record, all records, or a filtered selection.
Export Options
- Go to Export in the menu
- Select your desired format (PDF, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Choose scope: Current record, All records, or Filtered selection
- Configure format-specific options if needed
- Click Export to generate and download
Batch Export
For large datasets, Publixx can generate hundreds of documents automatically. Options include single multi-page files or ZIP archives with individual files per record.
